The world is passing through a period of fundamental - revolutionary - change. The 1990s have seen the end of the Cold War and the full force of economic globalisation. The transforming impact of the information revolution on our society and the world has only just begun. If Australia is to remain in the very different world of the early twenty first century a prosperous economy, and a community which values equality and justice, few things will be more important for us than the hard task of public policy making and engaging in the national reflection and debate which must accompany it.

The site's contents include the texts of a number of speeches I made as Prime Minister and some I have made since as Visiting Professor of Public Policy at the University of New South Wales and elsewhere. The speeches have been linked thematically. I hope visitors will find ideas they agree with - or at least which prompt them to think about why they disagree.

But the debate about Australia's future will have many voices. That is why this site also includes links to a number of Australian and international sites which are generating ideas about our future in areas I believe are important.

I am grateful to Jim Nuzum and his colleagues at the Internet Reach Group for the technical and creative skill they have shown throughout this project.
